Hot topic in congregations: having a beard/goatee
by nevaagain ini am starting this topic because i was wondering, i see many who leave "the truth" are glad because they can finally have a beard.
is having a beard really a no go in congregations?
how is / was it in your congregation?.

No too bad in the UK, servants can have them (depending on congregation and body of elders) but definitely won't be asked to give a talk at a convention. I know a few servant with beards, and I've heard of an elder with one, (uncorroborated)
Absolutely ridiculous man made rule.

Stop Writing People Off
by Coded Logic inif you choose to enter into a discussion on this site and you don't have the time, or patience, or are just too damn lazy to defend your position on any given topic that is perfectly fine.
i'm not going to bash you over the head about it.
however, please don't tell me that i'm "wasting my time" or that the person i'm trying to convince, "will never learn.

True dat. I lurked for ages and it was only cos folk could be bothered to reason against dumb arguments that I eventually signed up. You may feel you're throwing your pearls before swine, but you NEVER know who ELSE is reading this... -

Introducing myself
by maksutov inmy name is russ, i'm 40 years old, from the uk, and i left the jws nearly 5 years ago.
i've been a member of the yuku board throughout that time, so there are probably some on here who know me already.
there seems to be more activity over here at the moment, so i thought i'd pop in and say hi.i was raised as a jw, started questioning it when i was 16, but there was no internet back then (well, no www anyway) so i got sucked right in and got baptized when i was 18. auxiliary pioneered on and off for a couple of years, then became a ministerial servant.

These talks and quotes are a great resource for if the allegation is ever made "we never specifically said the end would come in 1975." Yeh you might not have specifically said that but you sure as hell hyped it up to give that impression.
Thing is, I know the response. Oh those INDIVIDUALS might have implied it in their zeal, but surely it's better to be overzealous than lacking?

WTBTS denies Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe is baptized
by Listener inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbsv4z03sau.
youtuber peter rose called bethel and asked them if it was true that peter sutcliffe was baptized.
the brother who answered didn't think so but went off somewhere to check and came back to say that it wasn't true.

Interesting. He got them to clearly state that he's not baptised. I wonder if the newspapers will be forced to print a retraction? -

Loads of us have been posting from the KH for the last couple of years! It's the only thing that enables us to sit through that dross! I believe one poster started a thread whilst reading the WT from the platform! Captain something or other..
(edited to say, yes I DID realise this was fourteen years ago, but how easy it is now with the tech that's available to us, and how it keeps us sane!)

Ayn Rand - Opinions?
by cappytan infor those of you familiar with ayn rand and her ideas on morality, rationality and reason, what is your opinion of those ideas?.
i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.
do you think she's a charlatan?

Heard the name, know NOTHING about her! Know a little bit now since watching the video you posted. Looking forward to the debate that follows! -

God does exist here is my nonbiblical reason:
by Curious Kitten in(before you read i hope no one gets offended by the word retarted...that s how i thought when i was 13)my mom and dad are divorced and my father never helped my mother on raising us, so basically she was a single-mother.
he just abandoned my three brothers and me and my mother had to work two jobs all of the time so we never got to see her.
when we did see her it was after school, but all she did was yell at us, make food, and leave to her next job.

Well, what an interesting read from start to finish! You know what, if I'd ever experienced anything like that it would probably have swayed me into an unwavering belief in a higher power. As it stands, I'm a 40 years born in jdubya who has prayed intensely, repeatedly, for clarification, knowledge, wisdom, a sign, ANYTHING, but received naff all.
You made it here dudess, good for you, I reckon you'll be just fine! Dodged a bullet there!
